With the launch, Vi users in Bengaluru who own 5G-enabled smartphones can now connect to the Vi 5G network. The services aim to cater to the city’s digitally engaged population by providing advanced online experiences. As part of a promotional offer, customers on plans starting at ?299 can enjoy unlimited 5G data. This allows for smooth video streaming, online gaming, video calls, faster file downloads, and access to cloud services in real time.
To support the new services, Vi has partnered with Samsung to deploy advanced, energy-efficient network infrastructure. The company has also introduced AI-powered Self-Organizing Networks (SON), which automatically adjust and optimize network performance. This includes the use of high transmit power and multi-technology small-form radios designed to improve efficiency while reducing environmental impact. These efforts aim to ensure a consistent and high-quality 5G experience for users across Bengaluru.
In addition to the 5G launch, Vi has made significant upgrades to its 4G network in Karnataka. It has expanded indoor coverage by deploying the 900 MHz spectrum at nearly 3,000 sites. Capacity of the 2100 MHz band has been doubled at over 1,800 locations, with an additional 1,000 sites receiving new 2100 MHz spectrum deployments. Vi has also improved the 1800 MHz band’s capacity across more than 4,100 sites, enhancing the network's ability to manage increased data usage and deliver faster connections.
Anand Dani, Business Head for Karnataka at Vodafone Idea, said: “We’re excited to bring Vi 5G to Bengaluru, a city that stands at the forefront of tech and digital innovation. With our next-gen 5G and enhanced 4G network, we aim to deliver enhanced experience to our users. Encouraged by the strong response and robust performance in our launched markets, we are committed to expanding our 5G footprint — in line with growing demand and 5G handset adoption.”
Vi’s continued investment in next-generation networks reflects its focus on meeting increasing data needs while supporting India’s digital infrastructure.
