The collaboration follows a joint feasibility study completed earlier in 2024. The study evaluated the technical potential of Symphony’s wave energy systems for offshore industrial use under North Sea conditions. The new agreement supports shared goals of reducing emissions and lowering energy costs associated with offshore operations.
Symphony Wave Power CEO Sander Poppes stated: “This MoU marks a strategic milestone for Symphony. It demonstrates market traction for wave energy in one of our core segments—offshore industrial power—and validates the relevance of our technology under North Sea conditions.”
Under the MoU, the companies will advance a pilot project that will collect operational data and support technical validation of the WEC system. This pilot is intended to help refine the technology before full-scale deployment. According to Symphony, the performance results will be critical in shaping future applications and commercial readiness.
Symphony Wave Power is also engaged in discussions with other stakeholders in sectors such as offshore wind and remote island grids, aiming to secure additional pilot projects ahead of commercial rollout. The company’s strategy includes demonstrating flexibility across different maritime environments and energy needs.
In December 2024, Symphony completed the assembly of its wave energy prototype, a key step in preparation for planned sea trials. The upcoming tests will evaluate system reliability and energy output under real-world ocean conditions, further informing system design and scalability.
The North Sea, with its established offshore infrastructure and challenging environmental conditions, is considered a suitable testing ground for renewable marine technologies. Integrating wave energy into existing platforms offers the potential to enhance local power availability and reduce reliance on fossil-fuel-based generators for offshore operations.
Symphony’s WECs are designed to convert ocean wave motion into continuous, low-emission electricity, potentially contributing to a more diverse and resilient energy mix. The pilot with ONE-Dyas represents the first step in deploying this technology at commercial scale in an offshore industrial setting.
