
The route will initially operate with one flight per week. Depending on future demand, the frequency may be increased. While cross-border e-commerce remains a core component, the new service will also support the transportation of high-tech and high-value-added goods. These include pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, and components used in precision manufacturing, as stated by a China Post representative.
Zhengzhou has been actively establishing itself as a hub for international air cargo in recent years. The city’s infrastructure and strategic initiatives have made it a key logistics center within China. As of now, 33 dedicated cargo airlines operate from Zhengzhou, running a total of 58 freight routes, of which 43 are international.
The newly launched Zhengzhou–Luxembourg route further enhances connectivity between China and Europe, supporting trade and supply chains that rely on efficient air logistics. Luxembourg, known for its strong air freight capabilities through Luxembourg Airport and logistics firm Cargolux, serves as a gateway to the European market. This route is expected to play a strategic role in linking Asian exporters with European industries, particularly those in technology and healthcare.
Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport has shown strong growth in air cargo volume. In the first five months of 2025, it handled 239,000 tonnes of international and regional cargo, representing a year-on-year increase of 45.8 percent. This surge underscores the growing demand for efficient cargo services and highlights Zhengzhou’s rising significance in international freight movement.
The launch of this route aligns with ongoing efforts to diversify the types of goods transported and to expand market access for Chinese exporters. By shifting towards high-value and time-sensitive cargo, the logistics network is being optimized to support industries that rely on speed and reliability.
China Post's expansion into specialized freight services through this new route reflects broader trends in global trade, where logistics companies are adapting to evolving market demands. The company aims to offer enhanced services to both domestic and international clients, leveraging Zhengzhou’s geographic and infrastructural advantages.
With further improvements in scheduling, route optimization, and customs efficiency, the Zhengzhou–Luxembourg route is expected to become a key corridor for trade between China and Europe, supporting the long-term growth of international cargo throughput in central China.
