The move aims to increase Chile’s clean energy transmission capacity.
The initiatives, part of the G15 and G04 segments, focus on upgrading a 500kV substation in Antofagasta and a 220kV substation in central-northern Chile. The G15 project, involving subprojects OC01 and OC02 at the Parinas substation, seeks to boost the region’s capacity for clean energy transmission. The G04 project will enhance the San Juan and Algarrobal substations, optimizing equipment to improve grid stability and operational efficiency.
These efforts support Chile’s national grid modernization plan, coordinated by the National Electricity Coordinator. POWERCHINA’s prior completion of a 500kV transmission project in Chile demonstrates its expertise in the region. The new upgrades are expected to strengthen grid reliability and contribute to the modernization of Chile’s energy infrastructure, supporting the country’s clean energy goals.
A spokesperson from POWERCHINA stated: “These projects reflect our commitment to delivering reliable and sustainable energy solutions, enhancing Chile’s transmission network to meet growing demands.”
Beyond these substation projects, POWERCHINA is active in Chile’s renewable energy sector, including photovoltaic power stations and grid system design. The company, known for its integrated services in investment, planning, design, and construction, specializes in clean energy, water resources, environmental projects, and infrastructure development.
In a related development, POWERCHINA recently signed an engineering, procurement, and construction contract with Viroque Energy for the Arreaz Photovoltaic Power Station in Spain, further expanding its global renewable energy footprint. In Chile, these substation upgrades will play a key role in facilitating the integration of renewable energy sources, ensuring a stable and efficient power supply for local communities and industries.
