Trains 8 & 9 will contribute over 3 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG liquefaction capacity. With debottlenecking, the Corpus Christi terminal’s total capacity is expected to exceed 30 mtpa this decade. Jack Fusco, Cheniere’s President and CEO, stated: “We are pleased to announce the FID of CCL Midscale Trains 8 & 9 today, an important milestone for Cheniere as we continue to accretively grow our world-class infrastructure platform to over 60 mtpa.”
Cheniere is planning further brownfield expansions at its Corpus Christi and Sabine Pass terminals, starting with single-train additions. These could increase total LNG capacity to around 75 mtpa by the early 2030s. The Corpus Christi facility currently operates four trains at 16.5 mtpa. Stage 3’s seven midscale trains will add over 10 mtpa, raising permitted capacity above 25 mtpa.
Stage 3’s Train 1 produced LNG in December 2024, reaching substantial completion in March 2025. Two more trains are set for completion in 2025, and four in 2026. Fusco noted: “I would like to recognize the Cheniere team, our EPC partner Bechtel, our long-term customers and the regulatory agencies which govern our projects for the demonstrated teamwork, commitment and execution.” The project supports global LNG supply through expanded infrastructure.
