The Abydos Solar PV plant – Phase II is scheduled for commissioning in May 2026
Vikas Bansal, GameChange Solar’s international president, stated: “We’re honoured to continue our partnership with CEEC-ZTPC and support AMEA Power in delivering another transformative energy project. Following the successful execution of Abydos I, a 560MW project that has now reached commercial operation, this significant order reflects the trust we’ve built through strong collaboration and reliable execution. We’re proud to contribute our technology and expertise to a project that’s shaping the future of energy in Africa.”
Located in Aswan Governorate, the Abydos-II project spans 20 square kilometers and is one of Africa’s largest solar-plus-storage initiatives. It supports Egypt’s target of achieving 42% renewable energy generation by 2030. Scheduled for commissioning in May 2026, the facility is projected to generate 3,000 gigawatt hours of electricity annually, enough to power over 500,000 households and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 1 million tonnes each year.
GameChange Solar specializes in solar tracker solutions for utility-scale and ground-mounted distributed generation projects worldwide, having delivered 43 gigawatts of solar trackers and fixed-tilt systems. Its technology enables solar panels to track the sun’s movement, enhancing plant efficiency and protecting arrays from adverse weather conditions.
In June 2025, GameChange Solar announced plans to expand its manufacturing facility in Saudi Arabia to an annual capacity of 6 gigawatts by September 2025, doubling its current output. The facility will produce advanced Genius Tracker systems for utility-scale projects, further strengthening the company’s global supply chain.
The Abydos-II project underscores Egypt’s commitment to renewable energy and highlights the role of international partnerships in advancing sustainable energy solutions across Africa.
