This collaboration follows HyOrc’s earlier MOU with Acetech Metals for a 13,000-ton-per-year facility in Scunthorpe, UK, converting refuse-derived fuel (RDF) into methanol. Together, these initiatives support HyOrc’s goal of building a reliable European network for low-carbon fuels, serving maritime and industrial sectors.
The Porto and Scunthorpe facilities are strategically located near major shipping routes and logistics centers, enabling efficient distribution to maritime operators and other industrial clients. The combined output from both plants will surpass 38,000 tons of renewable methanol annually, with plans for future expansion to meet growing demand in the shipping industry’s shift toward sustainable energy.
Both projects utilize HyOrc’s advanced RDF gasification and methanol synthesis technologies, which transform waste materials into high-purity methanol with reduced emissions over the fuel’s lifecycle. By converting local waste into clean fuel, these facilities are expected to create jobs, enhance energy security, and support compliance with the European Union’s stricter environmental regulations.
“Our Porto agreement marks a significant milestone in HyOrc’s European growth strategy,” said Andrea Magalini, Director of Business Development. “We are systematically identifying the right locations to anchor a scalable supply chain for green fuels that can serve maritime, industrial, and transport applications for decades to come.”
The initiatives reflect a commitment to sustainable fuel production, leveraging regional waste streams to meet the increasing need for environmentally friendly energy solutions in Europe.
