Operated by a joint venture of Sempra Infrastructure (50.2%), TotalEnergies (16.6%), Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (16.6%), and Japan LNG Investment—a partnership of Mitsubishi Corporation and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) (16.6%)—the facility is located 29 kilometers north of the Gulf of Mexico on the Calcasieu ship channel. Its three-train setup can export up to 14.95 million tonnes per annum (mtpa), with Train 1 operational since August 2019, Train 2 since March 2020, and Train 3 since August 2020.
Cameron LNG is planning an expansion, initially approved for two additional trains with a 4.98-mtpa capacity. In 2022, the company requested a permit amendment from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for a single 6.75-mtpa train, increasing total capacity to 21.7 mtpa.
The achievement highlights Cameron LNG’s role in global energy markets, with its expansion set to further strengthen its export capabilities.
