Kemira has recently announced a strategic investment to expand its production capabilities in Tarragona, Spain.
The new facility will bolster Kemira’s product offerings and reinforce its standing in the expanding market for advanced water treatment solutions. ACH, a high basicity polyaluminium chloride, excels at removing color and particles from raw water, particularly during heavy rainfall and flooding, which pose growing challenges for urban areas across Europe. The investment aligns with Kemira’s commitment to addressing environmental concerns through innovative technologies.
Tuija Pohjolainen-Hiltunen, Executive Vice President of Water Solutions at Kemira, stated: “This investment in Tarragona marks an important step in expanding our capabilities to meet the growing demand for high-performance and sustainable water treatment solutions.” She added: “With Aluminium Chloro Hydrate, we can offer our customers a more efficient and environmentally responsible solution for drinking water treatment – especially in urban areas facing increasing challenges from climate-related events. It also strengthens our position in key markets in Europe and Africa, supporting our long-term growth strategy.”
The Tarragona expansion will enhance Kemira’s ability to serve customers in Europe and Africa, where demand for effective water treatment is rising due to climate-related water quality issues. The new production line is designed to meet stringent environmental standards, ensuring that ACH production supports sustainable practices in water purification.
By investing in Tarragona, Kemira aims to capitalize on the region’s strategic location and infrastructure to efficiently distribute its products. The project underscores the company’s focus on innovation and sustainability, as ACH offers a more efficient alternative to traditional coagulants, reducing the environmental footprint of water treatment processes.
This initiative is part of Kemira’s broader strategy to expand its presence in high-growth markets while addressing global challenges such as water scarcity and urban resilience. The Tarragona facility will play a key role in supporting municipalities and industries in achieving reliable access to clean drinking water, contributing to public health and environmental goals across the regions it serves.
