Taihan will manage the design, manufacturing, transportation and installation of inter-array cables that connect the turbines and link them to offshore substations.
Located off the west coast of the Anma archipelago in Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do, the 532MW Anma offshore wind farm spans 83.9 million square meters. It is expected to produce 1,400 gigawatt hours annually, enough to provide electricity to 1.4 million people each year.
Taihan will oversee the entire process, including the design, manufacturing, transportation, and installation of inter-array cables that connect the wind turbines to offshore substations. The cables will be produced at Taihan’s new Dangjin submarine cable plant and installed using PALOS, South Korea’s only cable-laying vessel. Taihan has prior experience supplying cables for domestic projects like Yeonggwang Nakwol and Southwest Offshore Wind.
A Taihan spokesperson stated: “Leveraging our submarine cable competitiveness built since 2009, Taihan is achieving rapid results in Korea’s offshore wind segment. By consistently strengthening our turnkey capabilities, we aim to contribute to supply chain stability for Korea’s offshore wind expansion and the West Coast Energy Highway, while also enhancing export competitiveness as we actively join growing offshore wind projects in Europe and Asia.”
To meet rising demand, Taihan is expanding its production capabilities. A second submarine cable facility, designed to manufacture high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cables, is slated to begin operations in 2027. This expansion supports South Korea’s growing offshore wind sector and strengthens Taihan’s position in international markets.
In early 2025, Taihan was selected by National Grid, a British multinational utility, as a supplier for a $76.3 billion HVDC supply chain framework to bolster energy infrastructure in the UK. This contract underscores Taihan’s growing role in global renewable energy projects.
The Anma project contributes to South Korea’s efforts to expand renewable energy capacity, supporting both domestic energy needs and the country’s ambitions to enhance its renewable energy supply chain for global markets.
