Through its local subsidiary, Oriental Consultants Global Do Brasil LTDA (OCGBR), OC Global has invested in Begreen Bioenergia e Fertilizants Sustentaveis Passo Fundo SPE S.A. (SPV Passo Fundo), a company dedicated to the production and sale of green ammonia.
The plant will be built within the campus of the University of Passo Fundo. It has already secured the necessary environmental licenses in compliance with Brazilian federal and local regulations, with support and understanding from the local community. Once commercial operations begin, part of the plant’s revenue will be used to fund scholarships for the university’s master’s program in engineering. This initiative is expected to contribute to the development of local talent and support applied research efforts.
OCGBR and its partner Begreen H.D. are also active members of TecnoAgro, a collaborative public-private-academic incubation network based at the University of Passo Fundo. Professional input and technical support from this community have played an important role in advancing the project smoothly and effectively.
The project aims to support Brazil’s efforts in reducing carbon dioxide emissions within its agricultural sector, which is a significant part of the country’s economy. By using renewable energy sources for ammonia production, the plant addresses environmental concerns while meeting agricultural needs for sustainable fertilizers.
In addition to its environmental goals, the project is designed to strengthen collaboration between academia, industry, and local government. It fosters innovation and knowledge sharing, while also generating employment opportunities and contributing to local tax revenues.
With its environmental benefits, academic partnerships, and community engagement, the green ammonia project in Passo Fundo reflects a multi-dimensional approach to sustainable development. It supports both technological advancement and regional economic growth, serving as a model for similar initiatives in other regions.
