The new solar energy projects will have a combined capacity of 150MW.
This partnership enables Sandoz to cover approximately 90% of its current electricity requirements for its European operations. The initiative supports the company’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact through renewable energy adoption. Sandoz chief manufacturing and supply officer Glenn Gerecke said: “At Sandoz, environmental sustainability is a core part of how we operate – reflecting our responsibility to both the planet and our people. Our collaboration with Elawan Energy to develop this new solar project in Spain marks a concrete step toward decarbonising our operations. By covering nearly 90% of electricity demand for our current European operations, we will reduce our environmental footprint and advance our commitment to a more sustainable future.”
For Elawan Energy, the agreement strengthens its growing portfolio of long-term partnerships with global companies focused on renewable energy. The collaboration highlights Elawan’s role in delivering scalable solutions to support decarbonization across industries. Diego Garciam, head of Elawan Revenue Management and PPAs, stated: “Supporting Sandoz on their path toward sustainability aligns with our core mission. This agreement represents a significant milestone for Elawan, enabling key projects in our development pipeline to reach commercial operation and reinforcing our commitment to strengthening our role as a leading independent power producer (IPP) in Spain.”
The solar projects in Valladolid are expected to contribute significantly to Spain’s renewable energy landscape, promoting cleaner energy production. The agreement aligns with both companies’ goals of fostering sustainability and reducing reliance on non-renewable energy sources.
In a related development, Elawan Energy secured €76 million ($88 million) in non-recourse project financing in May 2025 for 175MW of hydropower capacity in Spain. This deal further demonstrates the company’s dedication to expanding sustainable energy initiatives in line with its environmental objectives.
The partnership between Elawan Energy and Sandoz underscores a shared commitment to advancing the energy transition in Europe, with the Valladolid solar projects serving as a key step toward achieving these goals.
