The project aims to generate over 64,000MWh of clean electricity annually.
Located on a 332,900-square-meter remediated landfill site in Mukim Kota Batu, the facility is expected to be operational by the end of 2026. Beyond energy production, the plant will serve as a training hub, equipping local workers with skills for sustainable energy technologies, supporting Brunei’s transition to a low-carbon future.
Seri Suria Power, a joint venture between Solarvest Atlantic Blue, Serikandi Oilfield Services, and Khazanah Satu, has secured a 25-year power purchase agreement with Brunei’s Department of Electrical Services. This agreement ensures long-term energy supply stability for the region, including areas such as Subok, Kebangsaan, Mengkubau, and Sg Akar.
Dato Paduka Awang Haji Jamain bin Haji Julaihi, director of Seri Suria Power, stated: “This is more than a construction project. It is a symbol of Brunei Darussalam’s commitment to sustainable development and energy diversification. We are laying the foundation for a cleaner, more resilient Brunei, committed to sustainable energy for generations to come.”
The engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning tasks are managed by Serikandi Solarvest, a joint venture comprising Solarvest, Serikandi Oilfield Services, and Khazanah Satu. This collaborative effort combines local expertise with regional capabilities to deliver the project efficiently.
The initiative aligns with Brunei’s renewable energy goals, targeting 30% of installed power capacity from renewables by 2035 and a 20% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. By utilizing a former landfill, the project also demonstrates innovative land use, transforming a non-productive site into a hub for clean energy production.
This solar facility marks a significant step in Brunei’s efforts to diversify its energy mix and promote sustainability. It is expected to power over 15,500 homes annually while offsetting approximately 41,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future for the nation.
