WAN HAI A20 is the last of thirteen 13,100 TEU containerships ordered from Samsung Heavy Industries in 2021 and 2022. Each measures 335 meters long, 51 meters wide, with a 16-meter draft. The series features fuel-efficient engines to reduce environmental impact, with the final three vessels, starting with WAN HAI A18, equipped with wind deflectors to further cut fuel consumption.
All thirteen vessels hold “Smart Ship” notation, utilizing advanced systems for real-time navigation data to ensure safe operations. The first two ships, WAN HAI A07 and A08, joined the fleet in October 2022, followed by the third in February 2023. The ninth, WAN HAI A17, was delivered in June 2024 and named in September 2024.
Wan Hai Lines plans to receive 30 more vessels from 2026 to 2030. In October 2024, it ordered twelve ships from South Korean shipyards, including four methanol-powered vessels from HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries. Later that month, eight additional vessels were commissioned from Samsung Heavy Industries and HD Hyundai Samho. In April 2025, a $816 million contract was signed for four dual-fuel methanol-ready containerships, advancing sustainable maritime transport.
