Developed collaboratively with Bruce Power, the renewed MSA encompasses the full range of capabilities offered by Candu Energy for upcoming work packages.
The agreement, effective until 2035, could involve future work packages for AtkinsRéalis valued at up to $1 billion, depending on additional contracts from Bruce Power. It builds on a partnership established in 2015, which was set to expire in 2025, and supports Bruce Power’s major component replacement program and outage activities. The renewed MSA is expected to create significant economic and employment opportunities across Ontario and Canada, aligning with goals to support local jobs and economic growth.
“This agreement strengthens our operacional and project capabilities but also supports thousands of high-skilled jobs and drives economic growth in Ontario and across Canada,” said Eric Chassard, president and CEO of Bruce Power. “We continue to build on our strong track record of performance at Bruce Power in both operations and projects and will not lose sight of these building blocks that have made us successful.”
The MSA covers a wide range of services, including reactor core engineering, tooling, robotics, parts supply, nuclear safety, licensing, project management, outages, and lifecycle management. These services, provided by Candu Energy as the original equipment manufacturer, support the ongoing maintenance and efficiency of the Tiverton station, separate from existing life extension contracts through the Shoreline Power Group joint venture. The agreement streamlines future contract negotiations, focusing on cost efficiency and timely delivery.
Enhanced governance, cybersecurity compliance, and communication protocols are also included to align with industry standards and ensure operational readiness. “The renewal of this MSA is a testament to the strength of our relationship with Bruce Power, and the confidence they place in our work as the steward of CANDU technology,” said Ian L. Edwards, president and CEO of AtkinsRéalis. “Our continued long-term support for their CANDU-powered station is critical to Ontario’s energy security and clean power goals. We look forward to many more years of collaboration together, building on the success of the prior MSA.”
Bruce Power’s multi-year life extension project, one of Canada’s largest electricity infrastructure initiatives, aims to ensure six of the station’s CANDU reactors operate until 2064. AtkinsRéalis has supported this program for over a decade, providing operational support, including mock-up facilities, waste storage, training, and lab spaces, reinforcing the station’s role in Ontario’s clean energy strategy.
