Operations at the new production facility for direct food-contact coatings
The Jakarta plant, targeting an annual production of 1,000 tons by 2030, will serve markets in Asia, including China, and Oceania. It is equipped with advanced features such as air showers, high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter dusters, and antibacterial flooring to maintain exceptional safety standards. The facility complies with Indonesia’s halal regulations and adheres to the World Health Organization’s good manufacturing practices (GMP) for quality and safety. Its strategic location positions it as an export hub for sustainable packaging solutions in the region, with DIC considering further expansion.
“This facility marks a significant step in meeting the growing demand for sustainable packaging in Asia and Oceania,” a DIC spokesperson stated. The company’s high-performance coatings, applied to materials like film and paper, enable recyclable mono-material packaging, replacing hard-to-recycle laminated plastics. These coatings provide water and oil resistance, supporting environmentally friendly packaging solutions like paperboard lunch boxes, pizza boxes, hamburger wrappers, and paper cups.
The initiative aligns with DIC’s Vision 2030, which prioritizes a circular economy and positions sustainable packaging as a core business focus. By producing coatings originally developed in the U.S., Europe, and Japan locally in Asia, DIC strengthens its global competitiveness. The facility, the group’s first in Asia outside Japan dedicated to direct food-contact coatings, enhances its ability to deliver innovative, recyclable packaging solutions.
“We are committed to fostering sustainable packaging markets by offering high-performance, locally produced products,” said a PT. DIC Graphics representative. The facility also supports DIC’s broader portfolio, including interior coatings for food contact and exterior coatings for non-food applications, maintaining properties like sealing and resistance previously achievable only with plastic laminates.
The Jakarta facility represents a milestone in DIC’s efforts to expand its sustainable packaging offerings, contributing to regional economic growth and environmental sustainability by meeting the rising demand for eco-friendly, high-quality packaging solutions across Asia and Oceania.
