The Begonia project, awarded to McDermott in 2022, involved extensive subsea installation work. The company’s Amazon vessel installed more than 40 kilometers of rigid pipelines, while its North Ocean 102 vessel handled the subsea umbilical systems. The completion marks a major operational achievement for McDermott in deepwater engineering and project delivery in West Africa.
“This milestone reflects the strength of our integrated subsea capabilities, executed seamlessly from engineering through offshore installation,” said Mahesh Swaminathan, McDermott’s Senior Vice President, Subsea and Floating Facilities. “It reinforces the strategic value the Amazon brings to our operations, especially in markets where deepwater infrastructure plays a vital role in advancing energy security. This outcome also speaks to the strength of our partnership with TotalEnergies, the commitment of our local teams and partners in Angola, as well as the strategic importance of West Africa in our portfolio.”
The Begonia development includes five subsea wells connected to the existing Pazflor floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel in Block 17. Production from the new wells began in July 2025, with the additional infrastructure expected to contribute about 30,000 barrels of oil per day to Pazflor’s overall capacity. The integration of Begonia into the existing FPSO system demonstrates an efficient use of offshore resources and infrastructure optimization.
McDermott’s participation in the project highlights its growing presence in the African energy market and its ability to deliver large-scale offshore developments in complex environments. The company emphasized that its successful execution in Angola strengthens its position in delivering technologically advanced subsea projects that support energy production reliability and sustainability.
The collaboration between McDermott and TotalEnergies also aligns with ongoing efforts to enhance regional energy production while maintaining high safety and operational standards. The project’s completion is expected to contribute to Angola’s offshore production growth and further consolidate its role as one of Africa’s key oil-producing countries.
The milestone reflects both companies’ commitment to efficiency and innovation in offshore operations. With the successful completion of Begonia, McDermott reinforces its reputation as a leading global provider of subsea and floating infrastructure solutions capable of meeting the demands of deepwater oil and gas projects in challenging environments.
