Approximately 400 employees will join ABB as part of the deal.
In its financial year ending 30 September 2025, the acquired business recorded revenues of approximately €145 million ($168.4 million). The portfolio includes wind turbine converters for doubly-fed induction generators, battery energy storage systems for industrial applications, and inverters for utility-scale solar installations.
The transaction brings nearly 400 experienced employees to ABB, with key teams located in Spain, China, India, Australia, and the United States. It also incorporates two advanced converter manufacturing facilities in Valencia and Madrid, Spain.
Daniel Gerber, Motion High Power Business Line Manager for ABB's renewable power segment, stated: "By combining ABB's global reach and Gamesa Electric's portfolio and expertise, the company is well-positioned to capture growing demand and accelerate renewable energy adoption worldwide."
As part of the deal, ABB has entered into a long-term supply and services agreement with Siemens Gamesa. The acquisition expands ABB's serviceable installed base of wind converters by around 46 GW, significantly strengthening its aftermarket capabilities.
Gamesa Electric has over 40 years of expertise in power electronics for renewable energy, with a strong track record in both solar and wind applications.
The International Energy Agency's Renewables 2025 report forecasts that global electricity generation from renewable sources will increase by 60 percent, rising from 9,900 TWh in 2024 to 16,200 TWh by 2030. Solar photovoltaic is expected to drive more than half of this growth, while wind power will contribute approximately 30 percent. Renewables are projected to surpass coal as the world’s largest source of electricity generation either by the end of 2025 or mid-2026, depending on hydropower performance.
With the integration of Gamesa Electric's technologies and talent, ABB enhances its ability to deliver comprehensive solutions across the renewable energy value chain, supporting customers worldwide in achieving efficient and reliable clean power generation.
ABB employs more than 110,000 people globally and is listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange and Nasdaq Stockholm. The company continues to expand its portfolio to meet rising demand for high-performance power conversion and energy storage systems in the fast-growing renewables sector.
