Siugang Diantuo 01, measuring 38 meters, is equipped to handle key tasks such as ship towing, berthing and unberthing, pilot transfers, and escort duties in the port’s core areas. The tugboat features advanced smart navigation, remote control, and monitoring systems, enabling autonomous operation. With a 4,000-horsepower capacity and a 6,000 kWh battery powering two azimuth propellers, the vessel significantly reduces pollutant emissions, aligning with sustainable maritime goals.
CSSC highlighted the tugboat’s innovative technology, which enhances operational efficiency and environmental performance. The delivery of Siugang Diantuo 01 marks a milestone for Guangzhou Port, following the introduction of Yungang Electric Tug 01 in August 2021 by Lianyungang Port Holding Group, which was noted for reducing annual carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 900 tons.
China’s tugboat sector has seen rapid advancements in battery-powered vessels. In December 2023, Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard launched Yonggang Tuo 80, the country’s first diesel-electric azimuth stern drive (ASD) tugboat. In January 2024, Dalian COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry began constructing a 5,500HP ammonia/diesel dual-fuel ASD tug, featuring two C-type liquid ammonia storage tanks, an ammonia-diesel dual-fuel engine from Dalian CRRC Diesel Engine Co., and an ammonia fuel supply system by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Technology (Weihai) Co.
The deployment of Siugang Diantuo 01 underscores Guangzhou Port’s leadership in adopting clean energy solutions for maritime operations. The vessel’s advanced systems and eco-friendly design contribute to reducing the port’s environmental footprint while maintaining high operational standards. This initiative reflects broader efforts in China’s maritime industry to integrate innovative technologies and sustainable practices, supporting economic and environmental objectives.
