Vioneo’s pioneering plant in Antwerp, developed with engineering firm Wood, will be the world’s first to produce fossil-free, carbon-negative plastics at industrial scale.
The Antwerp plant is designed to produce 300 kilotonnes per year of high-quality virgin polyethylene and polypropylene plastics, derived entirely from green methanol without relying on fossil feedstocks. These plastics will be fully traceable, segregated, and carbon-negative, helping customers reduce their Scope 3 emissions. The production process is structured to avoid impacting feedstock supplies for food production, ensuring environmental and social sustainability.
Wood will leverage its expertise in sustainable engineering to support the project, applying innovative solutions to large-scale energy transition initiatives. The plant will operate on renewable energy and prioritize energy efficiency, aligning with efforts to reduce the environmental footprint of the plastics industry.
