Developed to a ready-to-build stage by GroenLeven, the project is set to connect to TenneT’s high-voltage transmission grid. Vopak will now advance the project, focusing on constructing a utility-scale Lithium-ion Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). This system is designed to enhance the flexibility and reliability of the Netherlands’ national energy grid, supporting the integration of renewable energy sources.
GroenLeven’s chief commercial officer, Benjamin Casteleyn, highlighted the significance of the transaction, stating: “This successful transaction confirms our leading role in the development of battery storage projects in Europe. Energy storage plays a key role in building a future-proof energy system, and this project marks an important milestone in our ambition to deliver large-scale solutions.”
