The Wacker Group has completed a new production complex for silicone fluids, silicone emulsions and silicone elastomer gels in Zhangjiagang, China.
The expansion, representing a low three-digit million euro investment, is Wacker’s largest single investment at the Zhangjiagang site in its 15-year history. The new facilities will produce high-purity silicone fluids, both functional and non-functional, and silicone emulsions, with select lines adhering to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards for cosmetics applications. Additionally, the site will now manufacture silicone elastomer gels, previously produced only in Germany and India, catering to China’s cosmetics and personal-care industries.
Christian Kirsten, Wacker’s Executive Board member, stated at the ceremony: “Our investment here in Zhangjiagang shows that we are committed to our successful ‘in China for China’ strategy, even in economically challenging times. By expanding our silicone capacities in Zhangjiagang, we are able to strengthen our specialties business.” He noted that China accounts for roughly half of Wacker’s 37 percent Asian sales, reinforcing the company’s 30-year presence in the region.
Alvin Hu, President of Wacker Greater China, emphasized the strategic importance of the project, saying: “This project is a strategic investment in the future. By increasing our production capacities, we can support growth in China over the long term. What is more, we are now able to support our customers’ product innovations and respond more quickly to current market requirements.” The expansion positions Wacker to meet diverse consumer needs and stay ahead of market trends.
The Zhangjiagang site, one of Wacker’s largest integrated production facilities, supplies a wide range of silicone products, including sealants, elastomers, and fluids, to fast-growing Asian markets. These products serve industries such as textiles, cosmetics, construction, and personal care, with applications in makeup, shampoos, and fabric softeners. Silicone fluids also support industrial uses like release coatings and additives for paints and construction materials, as well as innovative sectors like electromobility and renewable energy.
The expansion strengthens Wacker’s position as a leading silicone manufacturer in China, supporting local industries and contributing to sustainable growth through advanced, high-quality products.
