Wood will collaborate with Samsung E&A, the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor, to oversee the project’s development. The EPC contract, valued at $1.7 billion, aims to complete construction by 2028. The facility is expected to produce 1.8 million tons per annum (mtpa) of green methanol, utilizing clean energy from the grid to support sustainable production.
Gerry Traynor, President of Eastern Hemisphere Projects at Wood, stated: “Wood is continuing to deliver complex projects at scale for our clients in the Middle East region, a key strategic growth region. This win with TA’ZIZ is testament to our world-class expertise in downstream chemical facilities and extensive project management capabilities. We are proud to support TA’ZIZ on this significant project for the UAE.” The contract highlights Wood’s expertise in managing large-scale chemical projects and its growing presence in the Middle East.
The methanol plant is a key component of TA’ZIZ’s broader chemicals and transition fuels hub, which plans to produce 4.7 mtpa of chemicals by 2028 in its initial phase. This includes methanol, low-carbon ammonia, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), ethylene dichloride, vinyl chloride monomer, and caustic soda, several of which will be manufactured in the UAE for the first time. The hub aims to support the UAE’s transition to sustainable energy and chemical production.
This project underscores the UAE’s commitment to developing advanced, eco-friendly industrial facilities, leveraging clean energy to meet global demand for sustainable chemicals. Wood’s role ensures efficient project execution, aligning with TA’ZIZ’s vision for innovation and environmental responsibility.
