Tomasz S?k, Vice President of RPower, stated: “This is a significant step forward for us – both in terms of project scale and investor profile. The fact that IFC chose to support RPower is not only a vote of confidence in our strategy, but also a signal that Poland’s energy storage market is maturing.” The funding will enable RPower to advance its efforts in building infrastructure to support Poland’s renewable energy goals.
The IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, emphasized that the investment demonstrates the feasibility of standalone battery storage systems in Poland. Ary Naïm, IFC Country Manager for Poland, commented: “This investment will help accelerate Poland’s clean energy transition… and catalyse private investment in innovative solutions that strengthen energy security and grid flexibility.” The funds will support critical infrastructure to stabilize the electrical grid and facilitate greater integration of renewable energy sources.
The financing aligns with IFC’s strategy in Poland, which prioritizes high-impact investments that promote sustainable, long-term growth. By supporting energy storage, the initiative enhances grid reliability and enables the expansion of renewable energy projects, contributing to a more sustainable energy ecosystem in the region.
RPower’s projects are among Poland’s first large-scale energy storage initiatives, addressing the growing need for solutions that balance energy supply and demand. The development of these storage systems is expected to play a key role in reducing reliance on fossil fuels and supporting the country’s transition to cleaner energy sources. The investment also signals increasing confidence in Poland’s energy storage market, encouraging further private sector involvement.
This milestone follows RPower’s ongoing efforts to expand its green bond program, which aims to fund renewable energy and storage projects across Poland. The collaboration with IFC underscores the potential for innovative financing to drive advancements in energy infrastructure, benefiting both the environment and the economy. By strengthening grid flexibility, these projects will support Poland’s broader objectives for sustainable energy development and enhanced energy security.
