CATL’s BESS units will be manufactured at its new facility in Karawang regency, West Java province.
The agreement enables the integration of 2 gigawatt peak (GWp) of solar photovoltaic capacity and 4.4 GWh of battery storage into the Vanda project. CATL will supply the BESS units from its new manufacturing facility in Karawang regency, West Java province, where construction began in late June 2025. The facility has a total battery production capacity of 15 GW.
Enda Ginting, Gurīn Energy Indonesia country manager, emphasized the significance of the partnership: “Today’s announcement is another critical milestone in the development of the landmark Vanda solar and battery project. Vanda RE is committed to developing the project to the highest technical and operating standards, which is why we are delighted to have secured CATL’s best-in-class batteries.” He added: “Our progress reflects the strong confidence that partners and stakeholders have in the project as well as the vision of a green economic corridor between Indonesia and Singapore. The Vanda project is a stepping stone to bringing that vision to life, and we are happy to do our part.”
The collaboration aligns with Indonesia’s local content requirements and supports the shared goal of Indonesia and Singapore to establish a green economic corridor. The Vanda project is a key initiative in promoting sustainable energy solutions and fostering regional economic cooperation.
Earlier in 2025, Vanda RE secured a 1 GW supply of solar panels and appointed an independent technical consultant, known as the Owner’s Engineer, for the project. These steps demonstrate the project’s progress toward meeting its technical and operational objectives.
The agreement with CATL marks a significant advancement for the Vanda project, enhancing its capacity to deliver clean energy. By leveraging CATL’s advanced battery technology, Vanda RE aims to ensure reliable energy storage, supporting the integration of renewable energy into the region’s power grid. This initiative reflects a broader commitment to sustainable development and regional collaboration in renewable energy.
