Vocus Group has completed its A$5.25 billion acquisition of TPG Telecom’s Enterprise, Government, and Wholesale (EGW) fixed-line business and fibre assets, one of Australia’s largest telecommunications infrastructure deals. Announced in October 2024, the transaction received approval from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB), concluding at the end of July 2025.

This acquisition significantly enhances Vocus’ digital infrastructure, expanding its fibre network to over 50,000km across Australia, including nearly 15,000km of international submarine cable capacity. The integrated network now connects approximately 20,000 commercial buildings, strengthening Vocus’ position in the enterprise and fibre connectivity market.

The agreement includes a long-term wholesale arrangement, ensuring TPG Telecom retains access to fibre services for its retail and mobile operations. TPG Telecom continues to manage its mobile, consumer fixed-line, and wireless businesses, while transferring direct ownership of fibre infrastructure to Vocus. The acquisition bolsters Vocus’ network with key assets, including TPG’s Sydney and Melbourne CBD fibre loops and connections to major data centres, exchanges, and enterprise hubs, as well as integration with submarine cables like PPC-1, linking Australia to Guam.

Supported by shareholders Macquarie Asset Management and Aware Super, the deal aligns with long-term growth goals. Ani Satchcroft of Macquarie stated: “The expanded platform creates opportunities to scale digital infrastructure across enterprise and government sectors.” Mark Hector of Aware Super added: “The long-term value for both investors and the wider economy is significant.”

The acquisition positions Vocus to compete with major players like Telstra, Optus, Aussie Broadband, and Superloop in delivering high-performance connectivity to public and private sector clients. Network integration and optimization are in progress, with Vocus expecting to introduce enhanced products and services within the next 6 to 12 months, further advancing Australia’s digital infrastructure.
