Eku Energy and NHOA complete utility-scale storage systems in Basildon and Loudwater.
The Basildon facility features a 28MW BESS with a 56MWh capacity. Positioned near existing solar and gas-fired power stations, it supports the National Grid’s operations in the region. Habitat Energy will oversee energy trading for this site on behalf of Eku Energy.
In Loudwater, a 39MW BESS with a 55MWh capacity occupies 0.6 acres of rural land. Designed to integrate with its surroundings, the facility’s energy trading is managed by Statkraft Energy for Eku Energy. Daniel Burrows, CEO of Eku Energy, stated: “The commissioning of Loudwater BESS and Basildon BESS creates diversity [in] our operating portfolio in the UK. Our growing operating portfolio creates further opportunities to support our customers by structuring innovative long-term contracts. With the commissioning of these two projects, Eku Energy is continuing to drive our mission of accelerating the energy transition by delivering safe, secure and reliable battery storage assets that provide cost-effective clean energy.”
Both projects utilize equipment from NHOA Energy, with additional infrastructure supplied by ESM Power. NHOA Energy will maintain operations at both sites under long-term service agreements to ensure consistent performance and enhance energy reliability for UK consumers. Lucie Kanius-Dujardin, global managing director of NHOA Energy, noted: “These projects exemplify how trusted, high-performance partnerships are essential for the energy transition. The delivery of both sites in parallel required close coordination between NHOA Energy and Eku Energy.”
In addition to these developments, Eku Energy has secured funding from NatWest Bank and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking for a new 99MW/198MWh BESS in Ocker Hill, West Midlands. This project, set to be operational by late 2026, marks Eku Energy’s fourth energy storage initiative in the UK, further supporting the country’s shift toward sustainable energy solutions.
These efforts reflect a commitment to improving energy security and advancing the adoption of clean energy technologies across the UK’s electricity network.
