The project involves an initial investment of $250 million over three years, with a projected total of up to $380 million across a 20-year concession, extendable to 2055. Construction, spanning 18 months, will introduce advanced infrastructure, modern technology, and eco-friendly equipment to enhance the terminal’s capabilities.
AD Ports holds an 81% stake in the multipurpose terminal and a 90% stake in Noatum Unicargas Logistics, a joint venture managing integrated logistics and fleet upgrades, including refrigerated trucks and transport platforms. The revamped terminal, covering 192,000 square meters with a 16-meter draft, will be the only facility in the Port of Luanda able to handle Super Post-Panamax vessels with capacities up to 14,000 TEUs.
Equipped with three Super Post-Panamax STS cranes and eight hybrid Rubber Tyred Gantry cranes, supported by advanced IT systems, the terminal will boost operational efficiency and sustainability. By the first quarter of 2027, container capacity is expected to rise from 25,000 TEUs to 350,000 TEUs, and Ro-Ro volumes will exceed 40,000 vehicles annually.
The initiative aims to integrate Angola into global logistics networks, fostering trade and regional connectivity. It is projected to create thousands of jobs in logistics, maintenance, and terminal operations, while offering training programs and community support initiatives to empower local residents.
Mohammed Al Tamimi, CEO of Noatum Ports, stated: “Breaking ground on the Noatum Ports – Luanda Terminal marks a transformative moment for AD Ports Group, for Angola, and for the wider region.
