The data centre, covering nearly four hectares, will have a capacity of up to 140MW across approximately 10,000 racks, making it the only facility in Vietnam to surpass 100MW. Built to Uptime Tier III standards, it will feature an average rack density of 10kW, more than double the national average, with select high-performance computing racks supporting up to 60kW for AI and advanced cloud applications.
To ensure energy efficiency, Viettel is incorporating advanced cooling systems and AI-powered management technologies. The facility aims for a power usage effectiveness (PUE) below 1.4, reflecting a high standard of energy efficiency. Major General Tao Duc Thang, Viettel’s chairman and CEO, stated: “This project is a strategic pillar in the company’s 15-site data centre network, which spans Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, and Binh Duong.”
The project aligns with Vietnam’s national digital infrastructure goals, supporting Politburo Resolution No. 57 and the Prime Minister’s Decision No. 36 on ICT infrastructure planning. It also coincides with preparations for the 50th anniversary of Vietnam’s reunification in 2025, marking a significant milestone in Viettel’s digital strategy.
Vo Van Hoan, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, commented: “This investment is a transformative contribution to the city’s digital government goals and innovation ecosystem.” The data centre is expected to drive technological advancement and economic growth in the region.
Phase 1 of the project is slated for completion in the first quarter of 2026, with full operations targeted before 2030. The facility will support emerging technologies, including 5G, IoT, blockchain, and AI, while fostering job creation and digital skills development. Viettel’s network of data centres across Vietnam strengthens the country’s capacity to meet growing digital demands.
By developing this hyperscale data centre, Viettel is enhancing Ho Chi Minh City’s position as a hub for innovation and digital infrastructure. The project underscores the company’s commitment to delivering world-class facilities that support both national and regional technological advancements.
