Midsummer DUO
The production line utilizes Midsummer’s DUO system, designed to manufacture thin-film CIGS solar cells. This system will support the initial phase of production at a factory located outside the European continent, though specific details about the location were not disclosed. The company plans to expand the facility’s capacity in the future.
The DUO system produces 156mm × 156mm solar cells on flexible stainless-steel substrates, achieving 17% efficiency. These cells can be used to create lightweight modules weighing 3 kg/m², available in various forms, including wave-shaped panels and large 1,000 W modules for flat roofs, with an output of up to 150 W/m².
Eric Jaremalm, CEO of Midsummer, stated: “Our technology is proven and we can establish complete factories in a short time, provide all equipment, manage the entire project, and also assist in subsequent ongoing operation, service and sales of produced panels. We see it as an attractive offer for many countries and players.” The company’s expertise enables rapid deployment and ongoing support for solar manufacturing projects.
Founded in 2004, Midsummer develops equipment for thin-film production lines with capacities up to 200 MW and manufactures lightweight rooftop solar panels using its proprietary technology. The company is currently building a 50 MW CIGS photovoltaic plant in Italy and operates a smaller 5 MW facility in Sweden, reinforcing its commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions.
This contract highlights Midsummer’s role in supporting the global demand for efficient, flexible solar technologies, contributing to cleaner energy production worldwide.
