The Haein cluster is designed to support the development of large-scale AI foundation models by providing high-performance computing capabilities. Kim Myoung Gook, head of the GPUaaS business office at SK Telecom, stated: “Haein’s GPUaaS will serve as a catalyst for enhancing both customer and national AI competitiveness. As an AI infrastructure provider, we are committed to building the nation’s AI superhighway.”
Selected to support the Ministry of Science and ICT’s Proprietary AI Foundation Model program, the platform plays a key role in advancing South Korea’s AI ecosystem and global competitiveness. The Gasan AIDC serves as a central hub for these efforts, facilitating the development and deployment of advanced AI technologies.
SK Telecom has partnered with global companies, including Penguin Solutions for data center systems and Supermicro for AI server procurement, to ensure the platform’s success. The Haein cluster incorporates SK Telecom’s proprietary Petasus AI Cloud virtualization solution, which optimizes GPU resource allocation based on user requirements. Additionally, the AI Cloud Manager platform streamlines the entire AI service lifecycle, from model training to deployment, enhancing efficiency for customers working on large-scale AI projects.
The launch follows the introduction of Lambda’s Korea region in December 2024, reflecting South Korea’s ongoing investment in high-performance computing and generative AI. The Haein platform positions SK Telecom as a leader in providing robust AI infrastructure, supporting both domestic innovation and global AI advancements.
By leveraging advanced GPU technology and strategic partnerships, SK Telecom aims to drive the growth of South Korea’s AI capabilities, fostering innovation and strengthening the nation’s position in the global AI landscape.
