The SAF will be used for a flight operated by Pelita Air, a Pertamina airline subsidiary, traveling from Jakarta to Denpasar, Bali, scheduled for later this month. The company stated: “Around 32 kilolitres of the SAF from its Cilacap refinery have been prepared for the flight.” Pertamina also plans to deliver 1.7 million litres of SAF to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta to support additional aviation operations.
Produced at the Cilacap refinery, the SAF has a daily production capacity of approximately 1,400 kilolitres, with 2% to 3% of the fuel derived from used cooking oil. This composition allows the SAF to reduce environmental impact while meeting aviation standards. The initiative reflects Pertamina’s commitment to integrating renewable resources into its fuel production processes.
The introduction of SAF aligns with global aviation goals to lower carbon emissions through sustainable fuel alternatives. By utilizing used cooking oil, Pertamina contributes to reducing waste while producing cleaner energy for air travel. The Cilacap refinery’s production capacity positions it as a key facility in scaling up SAF availability in Indonesia.
Pertamina’s efforts are expected to expand SAF distribution, with Soekarno-Hatta airport serving as a central hub for these operations. The upcoming Jakarta-Denpasar flight will mark a significant step for Pertamina and Pelita Air in promoting sustainable aviation practices. This development highlights Indonesia’s role in supporting eco-friendly innovations in the global aviation sector.
The company’s focus on SAF production demonstrates a strategic move toward sustainability, balancing operational efficiency with environmental responsibility. As demand for greener aviation solutions grows, Pertamina’s investment in SAF production and delivery infrastructure is poised to play a vital role in meeting both domestic and international needs.
