The forecast details that the future freighter fleet will consist of 815 existing aircraft and 2,605 new additions. Of these new freighters, 1,530 will replace older models, while 1,075 will support market expansion. “This will be made up of 815 existing freighters and 2,605 additional ones. Of these additional 2,605 freighters, 1,530 will be replacements and 1,075 will be for growth,” Airbus stated.
The demand for these aircraft will be concentrated in key regions, with North America and Asia-Pacific expected to account for nearly two-thirds of the 2,605 new freighter deliveries over the next two decades. This regional focus reflects the growing need for efficient air cargo transport in these dynamic markets.
Airbus emphasized the critical role of air cargo in global connectivity. “Airbus forecasts significant air cargo growth as it has proved essential - not just to support economies, but also to connect remote communities, transport essential and health-critical goods, and enable local business development in emerging countries,” the company noted. This underscores the importance of freighters in delivering vital supplies and fostering economic development worldwide.
The projected increase in freighter demand aligns with the broader trend of rising global trade and the need for reliable logistics networks. Freighter aircraft play a key role in transporting goods, supporting industries, and ensuring the timely delivery of essential items, such as medical supplies, to various regions.
