The discussion focused on the progress of the green ammonia production plant project at Al-Nasr Fertilizers Company in Ataqa, Suez Governorate. This initiative is being developed through a partnership between Al-Nasr, Benchmark Power International as the main developer, and Envision Energy providing technical know-how. A dedicated company will be established to manage the environmentally friendly green ammonia project.
The plant is expected to produce 420,000 tons in its first phase, with the majority intended for export. The project has been approved to operate as a free zone and will rely entirely on renewable energy. It represents a key step in Egypt’s strategy to advance sustainable development, expand green energy exports, and strengthen the country’s position on the clean energy map.
Engineer Mohamed Shimi emphasized: “This project represents a significant step in the country's move towards a green economy and emissions reduction. Its reliance on renewable energy sources embodies Egypt's commitment to building a sustainable energy system, contributing to enhanced energy security and reduced dependence on fossil fuels, as well as opening new export opportunities.”
The minister highlighted that involving international expertise demonstrates global confidence in Egypt’s investment climate and reflects the country’s ambition to become a regional hub for renewable energy. He added that the project supports emissions reduction goals while promoting economic growth and competitiveness.
Engineer Shimi also stressed the ministry’s focus on public-private partnerships as a cornerstone of its strategic vision: “This partnership is one of the main pillars for enhancing the capabilities of affiliated companies and opening new investment horizons. We are keen to attract more local and foreign investments, bring in the latest global technologies, enhance cooperation with leading international entities in joint projects, raise productivity, transfer expertise, and localize technology to ensure sustainable growth and achieve added value for the national economy.”
The meeting reinforced Egypt’s commitment to green energy and highlighted the country’s drive to integrate advanced technologies in industrial production. By leveraging renewable energy for large-scale ammonia production, the project is set to enhance export capacity, foster international collaboration, and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
This green ammonia initiative positions Egypt as a proactive participant in global renewable energy development, combining environmental responsibility with economic growth, technological advancement, and strengthened international partnerships.
