The facility, which focuses on sodium carbonate production, marks an important step in expanding the country's petrochemical sector. Minister Badawi noted that the first phase of the project will have an annual production capacity of approximately 600,000 tons. The initiative makes effective use of Egypt's abundant mineral resources, especially limestone, which serves as the primary raw material for soda ash.
During the event, the minister underlined the project's role in strengthening the national economy. He explained that by establishing local production of soda ash – a material widely used in the glass, detergent, and other industries – the project will help meet domestic demand, decrease reliance on imported supplies, and contribute to a reduction in the overall import bill.
Minister Badawi stated: "This project represents a strategic achievement that adds real value to the Egyptian economy through the localisation of essential industrial inputs. It enjoys the full support and ongoing follow-up of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi."
The launch reflects continued efforts to develop the petrochemical industry and enhance the utilisation of local resources, supporting both industrial growth and economic objectives in Egypt. The project is expected to create new opportunities in related manufacturing sectors while improving the availability of key materials for local producers.
