A new network of ultra-fast charging stations is set to debut which will offer vehicle owners incredibly speedy charging.Two companies, ZapGo, and AS Green Cube Innovation, have collaborated to bring these ultra-fast chargers to market.

The ultra-fast stations will be equipped with ZapGo’s Carbon-Ion (C-Ion) ESS and are targeted to debut in Norway, which is a big player in the electric car movement.The point of the venture is to create a network off ultra-fast charging stations which have charge rates from 350kW to 1.2MW.

A press statement from the firm states that “100kWh is required to drive an electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) 300 miles (or about 500km) at freeway or Autobahn speeds, with more than one passenger and with normal air conditioning or heating.”

The 350kW charger is designed for cars and will be able to transfer up to 300-miles of range in just 15 minutes.More impressively the 1.2MW charger would be able to transfer the same amount of power to a vehicle in just five minutes.

However, the larger 1,200kW charging power is destined for trucks or lorries which will be carrying larger battery packs and need to travel longer distances with heavier payloads. The press release states that “1MWh of energy is required to power a fully loaded 18-wheeler heavy truck for 300 miles (or about 500km) at freeway or Autobahn speeds.”

Currently, electric cars cannot achieve charge rates times that are as high as this but the next generation models and trucks could be able to handle these faster charging times.

“According to the Norwegian Road Federation, about 60 percent of new car sales in March 2019 were EVs.The press release states that “1MWh of energy is required to power a fully loaded 18-wheeler heavy truck for 300 miles (or about 500km) at freeway or Autobahn speeds.”
