The facility will be led by digital professionals with expertise in infrastructure and urban planning. Its main focus is to create AI-driven solutions that improve underground utility data quality, enhance mapping accuracy, and protect underground resources for both current and future projects.
In addition to developing advanced digital tools, AECOM plans to collaborate with educational institutions, industry stakeholders, and government agencies to strengthen skills training and workforce development in the digital infrastructure field.

The Underground Infrastructure AI Innovation Centre represents a bold step forward in how we harness digital tools to solve complex underground design challenges. With the support of the EDB, we’re accelerating the future of infrastructure delivery and building capabilities that benefit Singapore and beyond.”
The centre’s work will include designing a suite of software to automate tasks related to underground utility surveys and planning. This software aims to minimize manual checking, facilitate regulatory processes, and help prevent project delays or redundant construction.
According to AECOM, the AI tools will evaluate the accuracy of underground data, pinpoint areas with significant space congestion, and recommend efficient uses of underground areas. They will also account for factors such as ease of construction, maintenance, and long-term feasibility.
This approach is expected to improve efficiency in utility corridor studies, which often require multiple utility maps and trenching reports. The streamlined process is projected to provide significant benefits for major infrastructure initiatives in Singapore.

The Innovation Centre will support the development of local talent with advanced digital and engineering capabilities, strengthen Singapore’s position as a global hub for AI innovation and drive innovation in our built environment sector.”
Beyond the Singapore centre, AECOM continues to advance its international portfolio. In August, the company secured a contract for the redevelopment of the Albert Park Pit Building, which serves as part of the motorsport street circuit in Melbourne, Australia.
Through its new AI Innovation Centre, AECOM aims to deliver practical digital solutions, foster industry collaboration, and contribute to Singapore’s role as a leader in sustainable and technologically advanced urban infrastructure.
