Rome’s Metro Line C will cover 26km with 29 stations.
The T2 section of Metro Line C will span 4 kilometers, extending from Venezia Station to Clodio/Mazzini. It will include four new stations: Chiesa Nuova, San Pietro, Ottaviano (which will offer an interchange with Metro Line A), and Clodio/Mazzini. Both Chiesa Nuova and San Pietro are classified as archaeological stations due to their location in historically significant areas.
San Pietro Station will be constructed in the gardens of Castel Sant’Angelo and will reach a depth of 48 meters, making it the deepest station in this section. Its design seeks to preserve nearby historic landmarks while improving the surrounding public space. Chiesa Nuova Station will be situated beneath the square sharing its name, near the Church of Santa Maria in Vallicella and the Oratorio dei Filippini, two structures known for their cultural and artistic value.
One of the primary technical challenges involves the construction of diaphragm walls up to 90 meters deep. This will require the application of advanced techniques previously used in the building of Venezia Station. Additionally, the route will run approximately 25 meters beneath the Tiber River, requiring careful engineering through a geologically and archaeologically complex area.
Webuild is currently completing tests on the San Giovanni–Colosseo/Fori Imperiali segment of Line C and expects to finalize construction of Porta Metronia and Colosseo/Fori Imperiali stations by September. When complete, Metro Line C will extend 26 kilometers with 29 stations. Currently, 22 stations are already in operation, connecting the southeastern and northwestern parts of Rome.
